How I did…

Well this week I am not telling how I did at the grocery store, and here is why.

First of all we had to start from scratch with our refrigerator since we had to pitch everything after the power outage.

The second reason is that while at Meijer I dropped my envelope of coupons and someone picked it up and helped themselves. Now I truly hope that they needed them and used them because I had some good ones in there. Fortunately I use a coupon binder and just place the coupons I plan to use in a separate envelope with my list on the outside so I did not loose my whole stash. Needless to say I was a bit upset and purchased much less than I intended and paid a lot more. While the total price was not that devastating the pathetically little amount of items I purchased was disheartening.

So (deep breath) I bought my stuff, delivered ice to those still without power and we are moving on.
To make a short story long I did terrible this week. I hope you did better, feel free to share! By the way how sad is it that losing an envelope of coupons literally ruined my whole grocery shopping trip, just a reminder of how much I rely on coupons to save me money. And on another note I will have my shopping philosophy up by next week. I promise unless we loose power again!

I feel your pain! We lost everything in our fridge and freezer, plus most of the stuff in our chest freezer in the basement! I just went to Giant Eagle last night and paid over $100 to stock up on all those basics all over again. It really sucks starting from scratch, but I’m trying to be thankful that things weren’t worse. I gave my 66 pounds of ice to my coworker who was still without electricity. Our schools started up today, but much of UA is still without power!

I still have not restocked yet. DH has had to work over all week so there has been no time for a big shopping trip. I have only been picking up things like milk and bread. I hope I can get to Meijer and Costco today. I really want those 2.99 Meijer potatoes bags!

I totally know what you mean about how losing your coupons ruined your whole trip. I will “go without” until I have time to plan my trips and get my coupons all lined up, because I am so obsessed with using them. But they save so much money that it is hard to buy something without them.

I was fortunate and didn’t lose too much from my fridge/freezer. I was like an obsessed fool running around town looking for ice and a generator to save what I have (which wasn’t such a good thing for my mental health!). The stuff I did lose can be added slowly to my list each week til I get stocked up again. At least I hope.

Here’s to hoping we don’t experience anything like that again for a long time. Also, I think it is awesome that you helped out your neighbors with ice and making food for them, that was very kind of you.

    Have a great weekend!
