October is SIDS awareness month and although the numbers are falling, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) still causes around 2,500 deaths a year in the U.S. In an effort to educate parents about SIDS, aden + anais is proudly sponsoring the CJ Foundation and their Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style (SSGS) campaign. The CJ Foundation has released a list of tips to help keep your baby safe called Ten Steps to Take Before Baby Takes His or Her First, here are some of those tips:
Always lay your baby to sleep face up.
Don’t smoke while pregnant and never smoke near your infant.
Don’t let your baby get too hot. Room fans have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS. Consider using a wearable blanket (I recommend the use of aden+anais breathable, muslin cotton sleeping bags, which allow baby to stay warm without loose blankets and without overheating.)
Lay your baby to sleep in an approved crib, on a firm mattress. Do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad, or waterbed. Remove all loose bedding, stuffed animals, and pillows from crib. Crib bumpers are not recommended and can be hazardous.
Create a healthy lifestyle for you and your baby.
If possible, breastfeed your baby. Breastfeeding has been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.
Put your baby on his or her tummy to play when your baby is awake and supervised.
My baby girl received a muslin sleeping blanket from aden+ anais and I love it, just like the muslin blankets this bag is light weight and breathable making the baby comfortable and easing my mind that she is safe sleeping in it. All of my kids have worn wearable blankets from birth until they could walk and I highly recommend using them. Everyone will sleep better when you know your kids are warm and safe. I have a muslin wearable blanket from aden+anais to giveaway to one lucky Thrifty & Chic Mom reader. To enter tell me which wearable blanket you like the best
