Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations Chicken & Apple Sausage with Gnocchi and Broccoli (Recipe) #GourmetCreations

Hillshire Farm is known for their sausage and I often cook with it in various recipes that my family enjoys. Recently Hillshire Farm took sausage to a whole new level when they came out with their new line called Gourmet Creations. Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations are just that, gourmet versions of sausage that you can find at your local Walmart or other grocery retailer. My husband recently got a new job so I decided that we needed to celebrate as a family by having  a yummy gourmet meal and I wanted to use one of my husband’s favorite meats, sausage.  Since everyone in our house loves chicken I used the Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations apple and chicken sausage as my inspiration. Even though we were celebrating I needed to stick to our budget and fortunately Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations are reasonably priced at $3.99 per package plus they have no artificial colors or preservatives so I knew I was making a healthy meal too. While at Walmart shopping for my meal ingredients I also grabbed a package of the Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations Beef and Jalapeno Sausage for us to throw on the grill another night. It just looked too good to pass up. Here is the meal we enjoyed and if you like chicken sausage you will love it too.

Chicken and Apple Sausage with Gnocchi and Broccoli

  • 1 package Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations chicken and apple sausage
  • 1 head of broccoli
  • 1 lemon, both juice and zest
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 red onion diced
  • 1/4 tsp roasted red pepper flakes
  • 1 package gnocchi
  • 4 TBS olive oil

Bring a pot of water to boil with a bit of salt, add gnocchi and cook according to directions. In a separate skillet add about 1 inch of water and bring to boil, then add broccoli and cook 3-5 minutes. remove broccoli and water from skillet. Return skillet to stove top adding 2 TBL olive oil and sliced up chicken sausage, cook 5 minutes. Then add in diced onions, garlic and roasted red pepper flakes cook 3-5 minutes or until onions are golden. Remove from skillet. Return skillet to heat with 2 TBL olive oil and add in cooked gnocchi, when brown return all other ingredients to the skillet. Add juice from one lemon as well as lemon zest from one lemon and stir. Serve warm with a side of bread and olive oil for dipping.

Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creation sausages are also delicious just grilled we enjoyed the beef and jalapeno sausages grilled and wrapped in Flatout Foldit  flat bread, so yummy! You can check out photos of my whole shopping trip and cooking experience to see this recipe is step by step action!
