How to Organize Kids Puzzles

Does this look like a scene from your life?

Well I am happy to say my floor does not  look like that at least it hasn’t in years! Ever since I started organizing my kids puzzles now my kids get one puzzle out at a time and even if the baby gets into the puzzles she can’t dump them all, and it is so simple to do. All you need are jumbo size ziploc bags and a plastic bin with lid.

How to Organize Kids Puzzles: Place each puzzle into a separate bag and zip it closed.

Stack the puzzles in your bin and put on the lid, now you can give your kids the bin and they may select one puzzle to do. When they are done they put it away and get a new one. With each puzzle in a separate bag even if a little one gets a hold of the box they can’t easily dump them all!

I put these puzzles in the bags 3 yeas ago and the bag and puzzles are all still organized and no pieces have been lost, I would say the system works!

Today as Day 9 of my 31 Days of Organization Challenge I went through and got rid of puzzles that were broken or duplicates to cut down on our clutter. Be sure to follow me on Facebook to join in the organization discussion as we encourage each other in our tasks all day!

  1. I do that too. I poke holes in the bag just in case they go on the head. A hole punch works great! I have also cut down on space with some of the puzzles I have that come in a box. Complete the puzzle, take a picture (or cut the photo from box) and place the photo in the bag for storage. We have way too many puzzle though!

  2. That is a great idea! I’ve seen it done at a rummage sale before but I never thought to just keep them in there. We have one of those puzzle racks and while it looks great, several of our larger, chunky puzzles don’t fit and are just stacked on top. Of course that doesn’t keep them together all that well.

  3. Good tip…unfortunately…Isabella has started taking them OUT of the containers that I keep them in! BLAH! I need childproof ones!

  4. I did that! I did that! That’s how the library did it and I thought it was so smart!

  5. We also store puzzles in zip top bags and love it!
