Keeping Your Resolutions With A Little Help From Friends

I am not big on making New Year Resolutions, mainly because I never keep them so what’s the point. This year I decided to try a new approach to my resolutions, I made group resolutions that are publicly accountable. That’s right I dragged my friends into it with me and so far it is working out really well.

There are a few things I am focusing on this year. The first is finally getting my house fully organized. We moved a year ago and I am still sorting through it all. I know I want a better organizational system in my home and with the help of my friends I am actually doing it. During the month of January I hosted a 31 Days of Organization Challenge and challenged my readers and friends to join me in committing to organizing one thing every day. Well I did it and they did too. We inspired and encouraged each other and it was really rewarding. My whole house is not organized but I got a huge chunk tackled. If I had not had the support and accountability to others there are many days I would have not organized a thing, but thanks to my friends I did.

This month I am focusing on the second resolution, getting in shape. I have not regularly exercised in years and I need to set a better example for my kids about taking care of yourself. So I asked friends and readers to commit to the 3oDay Shred with me and they did. We are on day 7 and I have done it every day not because I want to but because I have to. Each day I post on Facebook when I am done and others do too. We commiserate over how mean Jillian is and encourage each other, it is really great. They say it takes 21 days to form a new habit and I am well on my way thanks to help from friends!

Just last night I added a new resolution with the help of friends. Two of my girlfriends and I moved recently and need to clean out our basements, which are dump zones. We each took a picture of our shame and emailed it to each other. We have committed to 1 hour a day focused on this project until it is done. And you know what? I am confident after a year of mess my basement will finally be clean thanks to the help and support of my friends.

If you need some help with your resolutions I urge you to find a friend or group of friends to keep you accountable. Whether you do it publicly on Facebook or a blog or you email or text daily, just do it Having to check in daily with someone else will help you to keep on track and actually fulfill your New Years Resolutions!
